Old School Monsters
I am running with 5E superheros as PC's, so I am going to use the Monster Manual stat block from 5E as well. In this post I am just going ask any 5E Dungeon Masters to give the old school monster feel a try. During one of my games, I pre rolled a Goblin encounter from the number appearing recommendation in OSE. The total came out to 30+. My players had never seen anything on such a scale. They were excavating a recently uncovered tomb, but after returning from town, the tomb had been overrun with the goblin army. This encounter would have surely resulted in a TPK if tackled head on. The players knew this, and it provided them with a situation to take the gaming outside of the character sheet. They had to recon and gameplan ahead of time. They still ended up in a TPK situation, but I used that as an opportunity to funnel them into Keep on the Borderlands.
