The Beginning

The beginning sessions of any game of DnD, in my opinion, are very important. I would assume that the beginning posts of a blog are equally important, but I guess that I am mainly doing this as a way to get my thoughts down on paper. "paper"

With all that being said.. Welcome in Knaves and Knights. This will be my home for working out my current game of 5e + OSE. (O5E?)

You may be asking yourself, why? Why not just play 5e, or OSE? Well, the truth of the matter is, I don't like running 5e that much... However, let's be honest here 5e is the greatest at getting players. So, by utilizing 5e as a shell of what I want to run, I will be able to have more players available at my table. They get to min max.. they get to build what they want. 5e is a great game to attract new players, and returning players. Also, the DnD Beyond website is so useful for players the do not have any books at all. I am playing this game through discord for voice chat, and also on the DnD Beyond website for dice rolling and character sheet utilization. So, for the players who are disorganized, or maybe they don't have their shit together.. this is just the best tool available.

That is my reasoning as to why I am playing with 5e. Now, the reason I am playing with OSE as well.. In much of the same spirit as why I am using DnD Beyond.. I am using OSE because it is one of the best layouts I have ever came across, and the spirit of Old School oozes from its pages. My goal is to capture that, and translate it to how I am running my table. So far, I feel like I have had some success. We are playing Keep on the Borderlands, and I think that adds to it as well. Everything about the OSE (BX) ruleset is how I want to run a game. Hiring retainers? yes. Gold as XP? yes. Number of monsters appearing in encounters? yes. Initiative? yes. There are a few things that I am homebrewing to stitch everything together, but I will get into that at a later time.
